Local Missions

Jesus said, "I tell you, lift up your eyes, and see that the fields are white for harvest" (John 4:35) and that field is right here in the city of Edmonton.

The Shelter is hitting the streets, bringing the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ to the lost here in the city. Twice per month we are sending out teams for evangelism. Street preaching, personal witness encounters, services in the park, etc. are all part of what we do to fulfill this commission of the church.

Book of Psalms for Worship

Q: What rule hath God given to direct us how we may glorify and enjoy him?
A: The word of God, which is contained in the scriptures of the Old and New Testaments, is the only rule to direct us how we may glorify and enjoy him. (Westminster Shorter Catechism, Q. 2)

God's Word teaches us how He ought to be worshiped and therefore is our rule and guide. The reading and preaching of the Word, prayer, and singing from the inspired Book of Psalms are all central to worship as instructed in Scripture.

About The Shelter

The Shelter is a small but vibrant congregation that meets in the heart of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. The Shelter takes seriously the commission to make disciples of all nations. To that end, The Shelter works diligently to both proclaim the gospel to the lost as well as support the spiritual growth of its members; encouraging all to take full advantage of the means of grace our Lord has provided.

"Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you." (Matthew 28:19-20a)

Our Beliefs

We hold to the Westminster Standards, along with the RPCNA Constitution. These documents confess the primary tenets of Reformed doctrine and worship with Presbyterian government and discipline.

In summary, we maintain the five "Solas" of the Reformation:

  • Sola scriptura (by Scripture alone)
  • Sola fide (by Faith alone)
  • Sola gratia (by Grace alone)
  • Solo Christo (through Christ alone)
  • Soli Deo gloria (glory to God alone)
